Rick Taylor, Chairman

Rick is both a founder and Chairman of Fluorotechnics. Rick brings to the board particular strengths in finance and corporate governance. In a career spanning almost 20 years at one of the big four accounting firms, Rick became a Senior Tax Partner with a particular focus on M&A. He specialised in providing tax advice to leading Private Equity firms and their investees. For four consecutive years Rick was voted one of Australia's top ten tax advisors in surveys conducted by the International Tax Review.

James Walker, CEO & Managing Director

James has been Chief Financial and Operations Officer since the company started in July 2002, and was appointed as Chief Executive Officer in March 2009. James has overall responsibility for the company’s non-scientific operations. Prior to joining Fluorotechnics James was CFO at Hotel Dynamic Group and has been the CFO at BioSignal, an ASX-listed Bio Tech company. As CFO of Hotel Dynamics, James was a key member of the management team that was responsible for a VC-backed management buy-out and subsequent trade sale to a fortune 500 company. James is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

Peter Bergquist, Director

Peter Bergquist has 40 years experience in the functional genomics of extremely thermophilic organisms and their exploitation as industrial biocatalysts.. He has carried out contract research in the applications of industrial enzymes in the pulp and paper industry with Clariant Biotech R&D Corporation (Lexington, MA) and Gist-brocades (Delft, The Netherlands). He was a research director for Pacific Enzymes Ltd in New Zealand when it was owned by Shell Chemicals (UK). He is currently engaged in contract research developing novel DNA polymerases with Invitrogen Corpn., Carlsbad, CA. He was Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) at Macquarie University from 1994 to 2002 and is a Founding Scientist and Chief Scientific Officer for the Macquarie-based biotechnology start-up, Applimex Systems Pty Ltd, and a Founding Scientist of Pacific GEM Corpn. in New Zealand (now ZyGEM), a small biotech company specializing in DNA extraction techniques for forensics and diagnostics.

John Fletcher, Director

John was amongst the first investors Fluorotechnics in 2001 and joined the board in March 2008. John is recognised as one of the 'captains of Australian industry' and brings to the board a wealth of both Australian and international experience. He recently retired, after six years, as the high profile CEO of Coles Group, one of the two largest retail chains in Australia. Prior to this John spent most of his professional career with Brambles Industries Ltd culminating in his appointment as CEO in 1993. John was a non-executive Director of Telstra for 6 years and is a Fellow of the CPA. He is also currently the executive Chairman of Midas Australia Ltd.

Lars Utterman, Director

Lars has over 30 years experience in sales and general management experience with biotechnology companies. He is currently CEO of German-based IonGate Biosciences and chairman of Cellectricon AB, Gyros AB and Ludesi AB, all in Sweden. He is also a member of the board of LIVC Technologies GmbH in Germany. Most of Mr Utterman's career has been with Pharmacia/Amersham Biosciences/GE Healthcare. He started with Pharmacia in 1981 and by 2004 was Vice President Commercial Initiatives. From 2001 to 2002 he was in charge of the Proteomics business and for many years was responsible for managing European sales. In the last three years Lars has not been a director of any other Australian listed company.

David Weber, Director

David who joined the board in March 2008 has over 30 years experience leading successful teams in the Life Sciences industry. He is USA-based and has a particular focus on sales and marketing. Most recently David was President and CEO of Eksigent Technologies, an early stage company that experienced very high growth under David's leadership. From 2005 – 2006 David was Vice President, Marketing and Business Development, for Stratagene, a US$100M molecular biology tools business. David was President of the Americas for Amersham Biosciences/GE Healthcare from 2001 – 2004 where he was responsible for revenues in excess of $300M. Prior to GE Healthcare, David was Vice President, Marketing and Supplier Relations with Chemdex, a US$100 M B2B e-commerce and enterprise procurement services pioneer.

Ian Gilmour, Company Secretary

Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and Fellow of Australian Institute of Company Directors. Company Secretary of Goodman Fielder Limited from 1979 to 2003, Biosignal Ltd from 2004 to 2006 and Medical Therapies Ltd from 2005 to 2007. Director and Company Secretary of Amazing Loans Ltd 2005 to 2007. Currently, Director and Company Secretary of AQRB Pty Limited (formerly Audit Quality Review Board Ltd) and of IEG Holdings Limited, and Company Secretary of Benthic Geotech Pty Ltd, and a consultant to Complispace Pty Ltd. With Chartered Secretaries Australia, Ian is a member of the NSW Council and a number of committees. Besides from being a director of Amazing Loans Ltd, Ian has not been a director of any other Australian listed company in the last three years.

Greg Richardson, President

President
Greg joined Gelcompany in October 2008 following an acquisition of his previous company. He oversees US sales and searches for new opportunities in the areas of genomics, proteomics, and cell culture. Greg has spent his entire career in the life science sector, and has worked for Hoefer Scientific Instruments, Boehringer Mannheim, Clontech, and Hitachi Software before starting The Gel Company in 1995. Greg continues to serve on the San Francisco Biotechnology Advisory Council, dedicated to promote new life science businesses in San Francisco.

Mr Günter Theßeling
Chief Sales and Marketing Officer
Günter has been responsible for Sales and Marketing since joining Fluorotechnics in October 2007. He has over 20 years sales and marketing experience in Life Science consumable tools. Most recently he worked for GE-Healthcare as the Global Strategic Marketing Director responsible for the marketing of a US$100M portfolio of proteomics products to the pharmaceutical and diagnostic industry and research centres of excellence. Prior to this he has held positions as Global Marketing Manager for Proteomics for Amersham Biosciences and Marketing Manager for Electrophoresis for Pharmacia Biotech. Günter is based in Europe and is a member of the Industrial Advisory Board for the Human Proteome Organisation (HUPO) and a member of the Board of the German Branch of HUPO.

Dr Duncan Veal
Chief Technical Officer
Duncan is a founder of Fluorotechnics and was CEO for 7 years until March 2009. He currently holds the position of Chief Technical Officer of Fluorotechnics. Duncan managed the invention and identified the commercial opportunity of the technology created by Fluorotechnics. Under his stewardship the Fluorotechnics team was created and has developed and commercialised seven product applications and built a manufacturing capability sufficient to meet demand in the medium term. Duncan led the negotiation team that secured deals with the global distributors GE-Healthcare and Sigma-Aldrich and the regional distributor In Vitro Technologies. He has overseen the establishment of Fluorotechnics Sales and Marketing offices in Europe and USA. Duncan gained a PhD in Microbiology from Reading University in 1984 and has held academic positions in the UK and Australia culminating with his promotion to Professor at Macquarie University in 2001.
